BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
BATCHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMME
Four years B.F.Sc. shall comprise a course of study consisting of updated curriculum
and syllabus as per ICAR’s IV Dean Committee recommendations.The syllabus and course
content has been designed to meet the present needs and future requirements of trained
manpower in Fishery Industry.
Each academic year is normally commencing on or after 1st July and ending on or
before 30th June of the following calendar year. The academic year shall be divided
in to two semesters, each having 95 instructional days, excluding the period of
Semester End Examination and Semester break. Subjects to be taught are divided in
to self-contained units called Courses. These are taught in a semester through lectures,
practical’s, library reading, field work, assignments etc. Date of registration,
commencement of instructions, semester end examination, end of semester and academic
year etc. shall be notified accordingly as per instructions given by the University.
During the course of study, there shall be compulsory ‘Hands-on Training’ (Experimental
Learning) in VII Semester and ‘In-plant training’ in VIII Semester to provide practical
experience in various aspects of fisheries and allied industries. Provision has
also be made in the syllabus for field visits, educational tours for getting exposure
in Marine Fisheries and Brackish-water Fisheries.
